Moyes rages after what Everton ace did in Bournemouth loss – ‘Comedy of errors’
David Moyes was fuming with one Everton ace after a “comedy of errors” proved costly in the 2-0 loss against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
The Blues hosted Bournemouth at Goodison Park on Saturday (8 February). The visitors scored two goals without reply for their third win against the hosts in all competitions this season.
Deadline Day signing Carlos Alcaraz impressed in his debut cameo, but there was little to write home about for the Toffees after they bowed out of the FA Cup following a toothless performance.
Beto left David Moyes shaking his head in the Everton dugout
After a winter transfer window of constant speculation, including reports of a last-gasp move by Serie A outfit Atalanta to test the waters on Merseyside, Beto remains an Everton player.
The 27-year-old has led the line with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja on the sidelines and has emerged as a key performer for Moyes following his brace in the 4-0 win against Leicester City (1 February).
However, the Guinea-Bisseau international left the Blues boss a frustrated figure on the Goodison Park touchline after he missed a golden opportunity to give his side the lead before Bournemouth’s opener, as relayed by Chris Beesley via the Liverpool Echo (9 February).

“When Beto did get his most-inviting opportunity of the contest, shortly before the Cherries broke the deadlock, he took a wild swipe at the ball and scuffed his shot. In a messy passage of play that in truth was a comedy of errors from both sides, Everton then won a corner as a Bournemouth defender shanked the ball out of play with an unconvincing clearance.
“Moyes seemingly couldn’t believe what he was seeing as the Scot shook his head on the touchline.”
Constant errors cost Everton v Bournemouth
The Blues boss will be rightfully incensed with his side – two errors essentially handed Bournemouth passage to the next round of the FA Cup.
Only minutes after Beto left Moyes flabbergasted, James Tarwowski hacked down Antoine Semenyo, resulting in a spot-kick, which the Ghana international calmly converted to give the visitors the lead.
Tarkowski was at the centre of attention once again for the second goal of the day – he gave the ball away under no pressure to Marcus Tavernier, whose shot deflected into the path of Daniel Jebbison to score in a collection of errors.
Former Toffee Ashley Williams attributed blame to Jordan Pickford, who he believes shouldn’t have passed the ball to his centre-back. Alas, Everton proved to be their own undoing at Goodison Park.
Had Beto converted his chance, the game undoubtedly would have played out very differently. The Blues, brimming with confidence, were on a three-match winning streak in the Premier League heading into the clash.
Evertonians will feel let down by the players – the manner of the loss in the final FA Cup match at Goodison Park is unacceptable by all accounts.
Nevertheless, with the final Merseyside derby in L4 on Wednesday (12 February), there is no time to dwell on the disappointment of the loss and must look to avenge the performance and dent Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations.
