McNeil injury issues ‘spell end for Everton career’ amid £20.8m transfer update
Dwight McNeil could be set for an Everton exit in the summer as injury issues continue to frustrate.
The Englishman has been forced to undergo surgery for a knee injury at Goodison, which has ruled him out since the start of December.
As a result, the 25-year-old is likely to miss the majority of the remainder of this campaign, which will come as a blow to David Moyes.
With that being said, the Scot could be looking to move the winger on at the end of the season after a latest transfer development.
Everton could replace Dwight McNeil with Rayan Cherki
With the Friedkin Group coming in as owners, there is likely to be plenty of ambition ahead of the summer transfer window.
This is especially the case with the move to the new Bramley Moore Dock arena ready for the new campaign, most likely in the Premier League.
With that ambition, a swoop could be made to sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon who appears to be available for a fee in the region of £20.8million [Fichajes].
The tricky Frenchman would represent a real coup for the Toffees given the interest in his signature in recent months and years.
The 21-year-old’s addition would likely work well with Iliman Ndiaye who plays in a similar way, but could spell the end for McNeil.
Given that the former Burnley man likes to get on the ball and swing a cross in, the current Lyon star could be wasted on Merseyside.
As a result, a sale could prove to be beneficial for all parties, which would certainly divide opinion among Evertonians.
Rayan Cherki would shine for Everton
If there is an opportunity to sign the versatile forward from Lyon, the Toffees need to take advantage and bring him in while they have the chance.
Cherki is technically excellent and has tricky feet which makes him a nightmare for opposition defenders to deal with.
Especially with a fee of just £20.8m involved there is no chance that Moyes, Thelwell and Co. can pass on that chance.
This could potentially spell the end for McNeil but that may prove to be wise given the risk around him returning from injury.
It will certainly be a deal that is worth keeping an eye on as the summer transfer window approaches.
