Everton v Liverpool: Moyes has ‘secret weapon’ for Merseyside derby
Everton and Liverpool are set to face off with one another in the last-ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
Both teams have won 41 derbies each and if one of the two comes away with all three points from their Premier League clash on 12 February they will have the overall head-to-head edge as the final chapter closes on Goodison.
The Merseyside derby may not have been that close in some of the last few meetings between the teams but there is a huge sense of anticipation about Wednesday’s rearranged game.
Everton have been rejuvenated thanks to the arrival of David Moyes and the fact that this will be the last-ever derby at Goodison, makes it feel like the Toffees will be readying themselves for an all-out war.
Everton can beat Liverpool with secret weapon they have over them
While the Merseyside outfit may not have been at their best against Bournemouth in the FA Cup last time out, they will be bang up for the fight against Arne Slot’s men.
The Reds may have rested some of their key players such as Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah in their own FA Cup defeat against Plymouth but that doesn’t mean they’re unstoppable.
Especially since the last away game that Liverpool lost in the top-flight came at the hands of the Toffees last season.

Everton were one of the main reasons that Jurgen Klopp missed out on adding another Premier League title to his trophy cabinet last term, and to be quite frank, that could be used against them.
While it may not seem like all that much, the fact that Everton have that over the Reds could play in their favour and potentially be their secret weapon.
David Moyes will want to round off his Goodison Park return with a bang
It’s clear that The Friedkin Group brought Moyes back to Everton in order to get them out of the hole they were digging themselves into with Sean Dyche in charge.
While some may have questioned the Friedkins’ decision-making to get rid of one of the best Premier League survival specialists, it feels like it’s a gamble that’s paid off, and most Toffees supporters would have backed the change.
Indeed, everyone at the club would have likely wanted to do more in the winter transfer window but the addition of Carlos Alcaraz should help plug the gaps until the end of the season.
Moyes already has the fans behind him and if he managed to beat Liverpool and retain Everton’s Premier League status, his return could be seen as one of the best moves of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
