Ally McCoist left wowed by ‘exquisite’ moment he saw in Everton v Liverpool game
Ally McCoist has been left wowed by a moment he saw in the Premier League clash between Everton and Liverpool on Wednesday.
The game was gearing up to be an all-out war between the two rivals, especially since it was the last-ever Merseyside derby to be held at Goodison Park.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw after what was a fairly end-to-end game with one of the most dramatic ends to a game in Premier League history thanks to James Tarkowski’s equaliser in the dying embers of the game.
However, there was another moment in the clash that left McCoist in disbelief.
Liverpool answered Everton straight back
Everton may have been the ones to open the scoring thanks to a well-crafted set-piece routine that Beto put into the back of the net but it didn’t take Arne Slot’s men all that long to level up the scores.
The Reds were on the attack and Alexis Mac Allister managed to pick the ball up in the centre of the park, drive the ball forward and play a near-perfect pass towards the feet of Mohamed Salah.
Salah then took the ball down the by-line whilst the Argentine was making a splitting run into the Toffees’ box which eventually allowed him to get his head on the ball and knock it into the far corner of the net.
Speaking live on TNT Sports 1 (12 February, 19:46pm), McCoist shared his thoughts on the move.
“The timing of the run from Mac Allister is absolutely exquisite,” McCoist said. “The ball comes to Salah, look at the run, off he goes, brilliant, he times it really really well.
“I think he runs off Beto but that finish is superb, what a reply.”
David Moyes’ men proved their worth
While both goals were equally as good as one another, it feels like it was much more of a surprise to see the Toffees score a goal of that quality.
When Sean Dyche was in charge of Everton at the start of the season, it felt like they lacked belief in themselves and couldn’t manage to get any sort of moves going on the pitch unless it came from Iliman Ndiaye or Dwight McNeil.

And, with the latter being ruled out for an unknown amount of time, it felt like there wasn’t much left for the Toffees to fight for.
However, since Moyes has returned, things have been completely tipped on their heads and it feels like fans are finally being able to see the true potential of their team.
Which, at the end of the day, is all that they’d likely want, especially after the turmoil that they’ve been through over the last couple of seasons.
And, when a game finishes like that, it’s clear to see that things are certainly going to get a lot brighter in the Blue half of Merseyside.
