Everton news round-up: ‘Huge’ Branthwaite update, points deduction claim made

David Moyes and The Friedkin Group are set for a new era and moving to Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium is just the beginning for Everton.

The Toffees have claimed 10 points from a possible 15 since Sean Dyche was relieved of his duties, now climbing 10 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

But with TFG likely attempting to implement several new ideas, the rumour mill and speculation will always begin churning, and passionate Merseyside derbies will always create news.

David Moyes struck with Iliman Ndiaye injury

Iliman Ndiaye could be ruled out for a few weeks, Moyes has confirmed, in a new crushing blow following his injury against the Reds on Wednesday 12 February.

The six-goal winger was replaced after just 25 minutes, with Jack Harrison coming on in his place, joining Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson, Orel Mangala, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja on the sidelines.

Merseyside Police share update on Goodison Park bottle-throwing

Merseyside Police are currently investigating an incident which saw an away supporter throw a bottle at a Blues fan during the 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

While a 35-year-old man voluntarily attended an interview regarding the incident, he was released under investigation pending further enquiries.

The scenes at the end of the clash certainly put a sour twist on what was an incredible final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, but the Police look to be working hard to find anyone guilty on the night.

Jarrad Branthwaite in line for “huge” pay rise

According to Everton News, the Toffees are in constant discussions with Jarrad Branthwaite over a bumper new deal for the defender who is currently tied down until 2027.

The player is due a “huge” pay rise, and having been impressed by Moyes and his team since taking over from Sean Dyche, the 22-year-old is open to the idea of staying on Merseyside.

He has been the subject of transfer interest from Manchester United for the last couple of transfer windows but new terms could certainly help shift the idea of the talented prospect leaving anytime soon.

Sam Matterface hits out at disgraceful points deduction claim

After one football fan suggested any team would face six or nine points deducted following the scenes against Liverpool, Sam Matterface quickly shut down those claims.

Speaking via talkSPORT [14 February], he said: “They wouldn’t. That’s never happened. It was an absolute disgrace. I love both clubs, I think they’re great clubs.

“But that was an absolute disgrace what happened the other night.”

Abdoulaye Doucoure, Curtis Jones and Arne Slot all received red cards following the final whistle, with Michael Oliver feeling he had no other choice following a huge eruption on the pitch.

Everton received two separate points deductions last season but another one is unlikely to land at the entrance of Goodison Park.
