Everton want to sign Harrison Duncan as ‘extraordinary’ update emerges

Everton are planning on winning a chase to sign Harrison Duncan from Rotherham United, according to Alan Nixon.

With things finally looking up at Goodison Park, the Toffees feel as though they are able to look to the future with more optimism.

Kevin Thelwell has admitted that while having to remain cautious in their business, the Blues are coming out of a tunnel as they prepare for the summer transfer window.

Everton chasing Harrison Duncan signing

With a new era underway in Merseyside with the return of David Moyes, the takeover of the club by the Friedkin Group and a move to Bramley-Moor Dock at the end of the campaign, it is time for the Toffees to look forward.

While Everton will be eager to add to their side and strengthen the squad they already have, there is also plenty to be said for making long-term signings that will give Everton something to both develop and then bring through the ranks when ready.

According to Nixon (16 February), someone on that list is teenage Duncan who is currently at Rotherham United.

The report states that the Blues are set to ramp up their interest in the tall defender and may be prepared to invite him to Finch Farm for a trial, allowing a decision to be made on whether a permanent move will be made.

Everton keen to add to their ranks

The defender is highly rated and as a result, he has earned himself a place on the Rotherhan first-team bench twice so far this season, most recently in the Millers’ draw against Blackpool on 11 February.

Furthermore, Duncan was also given a start in the EFL Trophy as his side took on Newcastle United’s under-21 side back in October.

According to Nixon, the defender is a “giant”, similar in stature to John Stones and has an “extraordinary” record at youth level, having scored 11 goals from centre-half this season, possibly suggesting why he got picked up in the first place.

If Everton were to complete this move, it will certainly be one in mind for the future with no need to get too excited now.

However, being around a professional set-up with excellent facilities could prove to further his development going forward, as well as the opportunity to spend time out on loan and learn his trade.

Undoubtedly, Toffees supporters will watch some more eye-catching signings in the summer window with the likes of Tom Fellows linked, but this could still be a good bit of business from Everton.
