Liverpool City Council ‘to act’ after ‘surprise’ Bramley-Moore Dock developments

Everton fans have been assured that the Liverpool City Council will act after issues emerged following the opening of Bramley-Moore Dock.

Everton hosted their first test event at Bramley-Moore Dock on Monday (17 February) as the Toffees’ Under-18s were beaten 2-1 by Wigan’s Under-18s.

Peter Reid shared his thoughts from inside the ground, with the former Blues midfielder impressed by what he saw.

However, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the 10,000 Everton supporters in attendance on the night, and one of the most pressing concerns was public transport links struggling to cope after the match had ended.

Everton issues emerge at Bramley-Moore Dock

Liverpool Echo journalist Tony Scott took to X (17 February) after the test event had finished to share an image of a crowded train platform full of Everton fans, while writing, “It’s not safe.

“A shocking decision to have trains running every 30 minutes and only a four carriage too! That was with 10k today so god knows how they’ll cope with 50k plus! Awful.”

It seems as though Liverpool City Mayor Steve Rotheram has some questions to answer. Therefore, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – expects that the Liverpool City Council will take action to rectify these issues.

“You’re going to get these teething issues when opening a new stadium,” King said.

“It is important to have these practice runs before everything is ironed out. I’m a little bit surprised there were travel issues, I would have expected the Liverpool City Council to have things in place on that front.

“However, if it isn’t, that has got to be worked on. They’re looking for things to function by August, we’re still in February. Therefore, they have time to put things right. Of course, the Liverpool City Council will act to address these concerns.”

Whatever fans’ opinions are of Bramley-Moore Dock after the first event took place, nothing will change the fact that this is set to replace Goodison Park as the Everton home stadium next season.

Therefore, public transport links to and from the ground must be safe and suitable for use by the time August comes around.

Luckily, there is still plenty of time to fix any issues, and these test events will hopefully allow for a smoother transition into the stadium for the Toffees.
