Darren Bent shares Everton admission after ‘Massive’ Moyes claim

Darren Bent has been impressed by what Everton and David Moyes have done over the past month.

The Scotsman was brought in last month to replace Sean Dyche after a rather poor run of results that almost led the Toffees into the bottom three of the Premier League.

Since Moyes’ return, however, things have started to go a lot more in the Merseyside outfit’s favour with their gap to the drop zone now sitting at 13 points.

Bent lauded the work done by the former West Ham manager and made one admission about his return to Goodison Park.

Bent didn’t expect Moyes to have this impact on Everton

Out of their last five Premier League games, the Toffees have managed to win four of them and draw the other with Liverpool, which is a testament to how well Moyes has managed to turn things around.

Their goal difference is even almost back into the positives with their current tally sitting at minus four.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (18 February), Bent shared his thoughts on the work Moyes has done at Goodison Park this season, admitting he didn’t think Everton would perform quite this well.

“Everton were in massive trouble when David Moyes went there,” Goldstein said.

“They were 16th in the Premier League, one point clear of the relegation zone and had just three wins all season.

“They’re now 13 points clear of the drop zone, unbelievable since he’s got there, did you see him turning things around as quickly as he has done?”

To which Bent replied: “No absolutely not, I thought they’d be better under Moyes because that’s what type of manager he is but you look at some of the results since he got there, and probably not in his wildest dreams did he think he’d get that off to that type of start.

“There was that defeat to Villa in his opening game but I thought they did ok.

“They beat Tottenham, beat Brighton, beat Leicester, go out the FA Cup against Bournemouth and a 2-2 with Liverpool.

“He’s got off to a really good start.”

Everton have a lot to thank David Moyes for

If we’re being honest, without Moyes taking over from Dyche when he did, it feels like the Toffees could have had huge trouble dragging themselves out of into the Premier League’s relegation battle.

It already felt like things were going that way with the Merseyside outfit failing to find the back of the net no matter how hard they tried.

However, thanks to Moyes instilling belief into players such as Beto and Jesper Lindstrom, they’ve managed to dig their way out of the massive hole they found themselves in.

Times have been tough over the last few seasons for Everton and while things are seeming to get somewhat brighter with Moyes leading the way, that doesn’t mean all their problems are now cast to the side.

There’s still plenty of improvement that could be made to their ranks and while Carlos Alcaraz was brought in to ease some pressure from the shoulders of players such as Iliman Ndiaye, it still feels like more needs to be done in the market.

Otherwise, they could find themselves left behind their rivals who are likely to spend plenty in the summer.
