TFG make bizarre late-night Carlos Alcaraz announcement

The Friedkin Group have left the Everton faithful confused with a bizarre late-night Carlos Alcaraz announcement.

Everton made Alcaraz their only signing to the men’s team during the winter transfer window, roping him in on a loan-to-buy agreement from Flamengo on deadline day (3 February).

The 22-year-old has hit the ground running at Goodison Park, bagging a goal and assist in the Toffees’ 2-1 win against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, 15 February.

Over two weeks since his arrival, the Friedkin Group have made an announcement that is certain to leave at least a few fans bewildered.

The Friedkin Group release Carlos Alcaraz statement

The Everton owners bizarrely took to social media to welcome Alcaraz, as well as new women’s team acquisition Maren Mjelde, to the club.

Expressing their delight at the signings, the Friedkins also stressed their commitment to excellence.

“As Everton football club joins the Friedkin family of brands, we’re excited to welcome Charly Alcaraz and Maren Mjelde to the team”, the ownership group’s official X account read.

“Our commitment to excellence begins with great teammates and we couldn’t be happier to see these two joining the Blues.”

While the post is fine by itself, it is hard to deny that its timing would leave some scratching their heads.

It has been over two weeks since the winter transfer window slammed shut and Alcaraz and Mjelde have notably made five appearances between them for the Blues already.

Apart from the odd timing of the social media, it is also worth noting that the Friedkin Group completely disregarded the other signings the women’s team made in the recently concluded transfer window.

Mjelde was the sixth addition to Brian Sorensen’s side, with Kelly Gago, Martina Fernandez, Emma Watson, Hayley Ladd and Louna Ribadeira joining his ranks before her.

Therefore, it remains to be seen why the new owners dedicated a social media post to only two of their seven signings in the winter.

The Friedkin Group have turned off replies on their X handle, meaning the fans cannot even discuss the possibilities or directly ask the reason for the odd post.

Nevertheless, Alcaraz and Mjelde are signings that Everton can be happy about as both are considered significant additions to their respective teams.

After two cameo appearances, Alcaraz was handed his first start for the Toffees against Palace at the weekend and he made sure he grabbed the chance with both hands.
