Everton ‘ready to pay Jarrad Branthwaite £150,000-a-week’ amid Real Madrid news

Jarrad Branthwaite could be set to become the highest-paid player at Everton.

Branthwaite has proven to be one of the most important players at Goodison Park in recent weeks.

David Moyes’ return to the club has sparked a big upturn in form for the Toffees and Branthwaite has shared what has changed under the 61-year-old thus far.

The centre-back has started every game under Moyes and has been impressed by the Scotsman and his surrounding staff since his appointment, with discussions ongoing with Branthwaite over a new contract which would include a “huge” pay rise [Everton News].

However, if the Toffees are going to tie the 22-year-old down to a new deal, they will need to act fast.

Real Madrid monitoring Everton star Branthwaite

As reported by the Daily Mail (19 February), Branthwaite is being monitored by Real Madrid, with the defender keen to test himself at the highest level.

Therefore, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes Everton will need to offer Branthwaite a bumper pay rise to convince him to stay.

“I think they’ll be offering him a salary in the region of £150,000 a week,” King said.

“Especially when you see the kind of money that is being offered to players today. Branthwaite grew up at the football club, I’m sure he would like to stay at the football club.

“Moyes will likely be keen to build around Branthwaite and won’t want him sold. Therefore, I think it would be wise for Everton to keep hold of him. He still has things to prove to me. However, he couldn’t ask for a much better manager to develop under.”

Branthwaite ‘to remain at Everton

While a move to Madrid is of course tempting, Branthwaite could regret the decision to head to Spain this early in his career.

The pressure at the Santiago Bernabéu is immense, and if he doesn’t hit the ground running, Branthwaite could quickly fall out of favour and see his development derail.

Therefore, for now, he would be better suited to remain with Everton and continue to learn his trade under Moyes as the club prepares to move to Bramley-Moore Dock.
