Everton urged to appoint Manchester United chief amid Angus Kinnear latest

Everton have been urged to look elsewhere as Angus Kinnear nears a move to Goodison Park.

David Moyes has inspired a huge upturn in form at Goodison, with the Toffees winning four of the six Premier League matches they’ve played since the Scottish tactician was reappointed as Everton manager.

It appears as though The Friedkin Group are looking to make some exciting appointments in the boardroom as well. A new CEO is on the agenda at Everton, with recruitment firm Nolan Partners helping the club with their search to fill that vacancy [The Athletic].

And Kinnear appears to be the name at the top of the list on Merseyside, although another name has been floated as a potential option.

Everton urged to appoint David Harrison instead of Kinnear

As reported by The Telegraph (20 February), The Friedkin Group are looking to put a new executive structure in place at Everton, and Leeds’ Chief executive officer Kinnear has emerged as a leading candidate.

Everton have been in talks with the Whites, although Kinnear still has 18 months left on his contract at Elland Road, which means a compensation payment would be required [The Athletic].

However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – wants Everton to appoint Manchester United Director of Football Operations, David Harrison, instead.

“Kinnear isn’t somebody who I am particularly familiar with,” King said.

“Therefore, if I were Everton, I would go and get the person who was previously at the football club for more than 25 years, Harrison, who is currently at Manchester United.

“The way he ran that football club was incredible. He was one of the best administrators I’ve ever worked with. He knows Moyes, he knows the club. As a result, he is the man I believe should be appointed. Kinnear is a name, fine, and I’m sure they’ve done their homework.

“However, for me, Harrison should be Everton’s new Chief executive officer.”

Everton should consider appointing Harrison

Harrison spent 27 years with Everton and has worked previously with Moyes. Therefore, his return to the club would likely be welcome, and King’s glowing recommendation only adds to that.

However, he has only been with Manchester United for two years. Therefore, it could be difficult to get him out of his contract, and an agreement with Leeds for Kinnear might prove more straightforward.

In addition, Harrison might not be keen to return to Goodison so soon. However, it wouldn’t hurt Everton to ask the question.
