Everton v Manchester United: Michael Owen reacts as ‘Awful’ footage emerges

Michael Owen has reacted to the footage of the opening Everton goal against Manchester United on Saturday.

Beto scored the first goal of the game at Goodison Park on 22 February and it was after the ball spent a lot of time in the air.

The United players failed to defend the corner properly and instead of clearing it away to safety they just seemed to head it towards a different player and ended up paying the price for it.

The game ended 2-2 with the visitors scoring two late goals to go back to Manchester with a point.

Manchester United defensive woes exposed at Goodison Park

Michael Owen analysed the footage of the goal at the half-time interval and slammed United for how they dealt with it.

In his view, they lacked bravery and courage and were “awful” at getting the ball out of harm’s way.

He even targeted striker Rasmus Hojlund for not doing enough to deal with the situation.

Speaking on Premier League Productions at 1:29pm: “A couple of them (United players) were lacking bravery and courage. This is awful, heading the ball into the danger zone. Hojlund doesn’t even attempt to head it.”

Everton should have seen out the game and secured three points

At the start of the season, a point against the Red Devils would not have been a bad result as the Toffees’ main target was to avoid relegation.

However, given how the game panned out and how good they’ve been under David Moyes, this feels like two points dropped.

The game plan was executed perfectly and the hosts dominated proceedings from start to end so it’s harsh to see them just get a point from the game.

That said, Moyes will focus on the positives and look to build on the individual performances as plenty of players had exceptional games in front of the home fans.

Beto appears to be like a player reborn and looks absolutely unplayable at the moment.

The Scotsman has got the best out of his striker and he’s gone from being a backup striker to one of the first names on the team sheet.
