Moyes ‘to make major changes’ as behind-the-scenes Everton ‘disgrace’ shared

David Moyes has his work cut out for him after what Everton sources have described as a “disgrace” behind the scenes.

The Toffees have been lifted by Moyes’ return to Goodison Park, winning four of the six Premier League matches they have played since the Scottish tactician was reappointed as Everton manager

In addition, it looks as though positive moves are being made off the pitch too, with The Friedkin Group looking to appoint a new CEO, holding talks with Leeds United as they consider bringing in Angus Kinnear for that position [The Athletic].

However, despite all of this positivity, it seems as though not everything is plain sailing for the Blues.

Everton scouting department branded a “disgrace”

According to TEAMtalk (18 February), Everton’s scouting setup is “nothing like what it used to be”, with sources even branding the system a “disgrace”.

The number of scouts at the club has seen a dramatic fall in recent years. Therefore, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – expects Moyes to make major changes at Everton as he looks to improve the club’s recruitment.

“When I was at the club, the scouting was extremely well organised,” King said.

“All the people who were involved were good football people. Moyes was always keen to know if the players we were looking at were Everton-type players, and would ask if they were suited to the club. That was the way we worked, and we found very good players for reasonable fees who were sold on for big money.

“John Stones is the obvious example. Séamus Coleman, I know he wasn’t sold on, but he has gone on to make an incredible amount of appearances for Everton. Things were done properly when I was there. However, for the last six or seven years, the players who have been brought in haven’t been good enough, and I’m afraid that comes down to recruitment, which is the most important thing in football.

“It looks as though Everton, and more particularly the club’s scouting department, has not been up to the standard of a Premier League club. If Moyes is at the club for a long enough amount of time, you will see major changes in the scouting department to improve recruitment, that is for sure.”

Moyes ‘to make major changes at Everton’

Moyes may have made a positive start to his second spell in charge of Everton.

However, there are still plenty of problems to address, which this latest report indicates. Therefore, it appears as though there is still plenty of work to do until Everton can compete near the top of the Premier League again.

However, after the start he has made, fans will be confident that Moyes is the right person to fix things.
