Everton ‘career-ending’ reveal emerges on Seamus Coleman

Everton defender Seamus Coleman has faced a number of injury setbacks over the last year, restricting his game time.

This season, too, the Republic of Ireland international has only been able to make three Premier League appearances all season.

Ashley Young, who is three years older than the club captain, has been relatively injury free and available for both managers to call on.

Goodison Park farewell on the cards for Seamus Coleman?

The 36-year-old has made 426 appearances for the club and is undoubtedly going down as one of the greatest ever to don the iconic blue jersey.

However, with his contract running out at the end of the season, things appear tricky for Coleman in terms of his future at the club.

His current calf injury, initially thought to be a mild one, is now a lot worse than first expected.

Seamus Coleman has barely featured for Everton this season in the Premier League.

Injury Expert Dr Rajpal Brar even admitted on 3 March that this could mean him not being able to return again this season.

He told Goodison News exclusively: “He had a calf injury in training but it sounded mild initially so would have expected him back within a few weeks.

However, these injuries can be quite sensitive, so they have to be very methodical with the rehab and return to play.

It turns out that it’s now worse than first expected and he’s unlikely to return before April.

There are even fears he might not play again this season so that means an April return may also be dicey.

David Moyes will likely be consulted in the Everton decision on Seamus Coleman’s decision

There is every chance that Coleman has played his last game at Goodison Park if he does not recover in time for the last home match of the season and he could end his career at the end of the season too.

However, David Moyes is expected to be consulted, after being handed reports from the staff, as to whether or not a new deal should be given to the right-back.

He’s in his mid-30s and is facing fitness issues, playing just thrice in the league this season, and those are factors that work against him.

On the other hand, he’s a club legend and a priceless influence in the dressing room so he could be given a player-cum-coach contract if the Toffees do decide to keep him.
