Everton injury news: Dwight McNeil update emerges for Liverpool and Arsenal games

Everton attacker Dwight McNeil is currently ruled out with a Grade 2 knee injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that while it is a moderate problem an imminent return is not on the cards for the English winger.

Liverpool and Arsenal games will come too early for Dwight McNeil

As the international break is going on, there will be no games this weekend.

However, once football returns, the Toffees will take on Liverpool at Anfield on 2 April.

Shortly after, they will play host to Arsenal – in what could be a decisive week in the title race.

For both games, McNeil is not expected to be available even though he might be back in training by then.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison NewsDr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about McNeil: “This sounds like a moderate knee problem, Grade 2 if it’s ligament related.

If he does return in mid April, would expect him to be back in first team training by early April.

As things stand, he’s not expected to be back right after the international break so I see him missing the next two games.

Everton are not expected to rush Dwight McNeil back to action

As Dr Brar rightly pointed out, the English winger is still some way away from returning to full fitness.

His extended layoff means that even if he returns to first-team training by early April and plays by mid-April, he’s unlikely to consistently manage 90-minute performances until the season’s end.

His injury requires careful rehabilitation to restore strength, stability and match fitness.

After three months out, McNeil will need time to rebuild stamina and sharpness, as prolonged inactivity weakens muscle conditioning and game rhythm.

Everton will likely ease him back with limited minutes to avoid re-injury, prioritising gradual integration over immediate full-game reliance.

With the Premier League season wrapping up in late May, this cautious approach, combined with the physical toll of his recovery, means McNeil may only hit consistent 90-minute readiness in the final weeks of the campaign.
