Alan Shearer blown away by ‘incredible’ David Moyes information on MOTD

David Moyes has transformed Everton’s fortunes since returning to Goodison Park.

The Blues were languishing in a relegation battle when the Scotsman came back after 12 years away from Merseyside.

However, Moyes took his side on a nine-match unbeaten run in the Premier League which was ended by league leaders Liverpool in controversial fashion on Wednesday (2 April).

The Toffees picked right back where they left off, though, securing a 1-1 draw with Arsenal to bounce back from disappointment at Anfield.

Shearer stunned by Moyes’ transformation at Everton

Everton have looked completely different under Moyes, they are defensively solid and can actually threaten in attack, unlike Dyche’s side, which were toothless when it came to going forward.

Speaking of Match of the Day (5 April, 23:27 pm), Gary Lineker highlighted the Blues’ recent form as a graphic appeared, saying: “The form table since David Moyes took over, look where Everton are, top six.”

Shearer responded, saying: “I said I thought it was a big gamble for David Moyes to go back into Everton but what an incredible job he has done and is doing.”

Everton need to back Moyes in the summer

Blues supporters will have dreams of a top-half finish next season after what Moyes has done since returning, with eyes maybe even turning to European qualification if they get things right.

However, there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a realistic option for the Goodison Park outfit.

The Friedkin Group must back Moyes significantly in the transfer window if he is to continue the progress that the Toffees have made on the pitch recently.

The Blues need attacking reinforcements urgently, as Beto is the only forward that has thrived under Moyes and they could also do with more steel in midfield.

The defence is less of a concern, with Jake O’Brien, James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite all impressing in front of England number one Jordan Pickford between the sticks but back-up is needed for the backline.

It promises to be an exciting summer with the upcoming move to the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, backroom changes including the arrival of Angus Kinnear and the potential for a major rebuild of the playing squad.

The Blues must get it right, otherwise, they risk falling behind the curve again after the Scotsman brought them back up to speed after years of misery around the drop zone under Dyche.
