Ian Wright shares major Arsenal player worry he noticed v Everton – ‘It’s wrong’

Everton battled to a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday in a fairly unremarkable performance, but one moment did stand out.

Leandro Trossard gave the visitors the lead at Goodison Park in the first half, but Everton were able to equalise right at the start of the second half.

Jack Harrison won a controversial penalty after a tussle with Myles Lewis-Skelly, a decision which has been slammed since.

Iliman Ndiaye was chosen to take it, and he dispatched his penalty with ease, firing the ball down the right side, and goalkeeper David Raya has now been criticised for his role in the Everton equaliser.

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya criticised after Everton goal

Ndiaye stepped up and placed his penalty low to the right side, but it was an easier penalty than he might have expected.

Raya chose to dive early, going down to his right, and Ndiaye was able to pick his spot with ease.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Arsenal legend Wright questioned Raya’s role in the goal, which saw Everton gain a point after going behind.

“I saw something the other day with David Raya on the penalties. He seems to be taking this massive leap to one side, which is almost giving the penalty taker so much time to say, ‘well, he’s definitely going that way’,” he stated.

“I’ve seen penalties being taken against him recently where he’s continually going the wrong way.

“I think his form in trying to save them, I think it’s wrong, simply because he’s going so far, he’s making such a commitment to one side.

“He’s giving it up, especially if you’ve got a longer run up, you can actually see him a yard away from the ball, he’s gone, he’s [Ndiaye] not kicked the ball yet and David Raya has taken two steps to his right.

“That’s the only thing I look at and worries me with the penalties being taken against us at the minute.”

Ndiaye continues strong Everton start

Regardless of Raya’s role in the goal, it was a comfortably taken penalty from Ndiaye, who is truly growing into the Everton shirt.

The winger joined from Olympique Marseille last summer, and has been an important player for both Sean Dyche and David Moyes.

The 25-year-old recently missed several games through injury, and his start against Arsenal was his first in the Premier League since February.

Ndiaye has now scored nine goals for Everton, and he will hope to be a key figure as the club move into their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium next season.
