Everton chief ‘wants to become sporting director’ after ‘shock’ exit news

Everton have one employee on the books who is understood to be keen on becoming a sporting director as he plots his next career move.

David Moyes looks to have secured Everton’s position in the Premier League as the Toffees prepare to move from Goodison Park to Bramley-Moore Dock next season.

With the Friedkin Group now in charge, it is expected to be a summer of change on Merseyside, with Angus Kinnear to take over as Everton CEO.

However, it looks as though one senior staff member is preparing for a personal change of his own.

Everton figure ‘wants sporting director role’ amid exit news

Kinnear appears to be wasting no time making his mark on Merseyside, with the 47-year-old believed to have greenlit a major Everton exit behind the scenes.

The Toffees confirmed on Tuesday, 1 April, that head of academy recruitment and player pathways James Vaughan – who played for Everton – would be leaving the Blues later this month.

However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – doesn’t see any problem with this, and belives it is all part of Vaughan’s greater career ambitions.

“If Everton wanted him to stay, they could have made sure he stayed,” King said.

“However, he obviously feels as though this is a career move, something he wants to be involved in. It will certainly be interesting for him to be an advisor to a player such as Alexander-Arnold.

“I’d imagine this will be something to benefit him in the future. I can’t see there being any problem with this, Alexander-Arnold comes from Liverpool; he is a local lad. A lot of the Everton and Liverpool players who were born in the area know one another; they’re not exactly enemies.

“Therefore, I can’t see Vaughan teaming up with Alexander-Arnold being a problem. It will be interesting for him to see how Real Madrid operates. I’d imagine that Vaughan has ambitions of becoming a sporting director, and this will assist with that.”

Everton fans to have mixed feelings after Vaughan news

Vaughan is closely connected to Everton, having played and worked behind the scenes at the club.

Therefore, his decision to team up with a modern-day Liverpool great might be a bitter pill for some to swallow. However, Vaughan ultimately has to do what is best for himself and his career.
