Jamie Vardy in ‘fantastic’ transfer discussion, Everton told to complete signing

Jamie Vardy has been named as a potential signing for Everton ahead of the summer transfer window.

Everton are poised for a big summer of change, with 13 players, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, running out of their contracts at the end of the season.

Calvert-Lewin and Armando Broja’s departures would leave David Moyes with Beto and Youssef Chermiti as his only available senior centre-forwards for next season.

That means the Goodison Park outfit will likely enter the market for a new striker in what will be The Friedkin Group’s first summer transfer window as the owners.

Vardy would be ‘wonderful’ signing for Everton

Vardy is a striker Everton can consider signing to add depth to their attack, with the 38-year-old’s contract at Leicester also expiring at the end of the season.

Troy Deeney is of the view that the veteran would not be short of options despite his age this summer, as there are not many centre-forwards available in the market.

The talkSPORT pundit added that Vardy would excel at Everton, where players would also enjoy teaming up with him.

“Jamie [Vardy] is in a wonderful position because there are not many number nines in world football, never mind in the Premier League”, Deeney said on talkSPORT (7 April).

“So, I could see him doing well at Everton, at West Ham.

“Jamie is one of those players as well, and one of those people, that when you play against him, you hate him, but if he is on your team, you’d love him because he does all the horrible things.”

Deeney went on to double down on his claim that Vardy would be a “fantastic” second or third-choice striker for teams like Everton.

The former Watford hitman insisted that the Leicester icon has not shown any signs of slowing down despite his age.

“Jamie Vardy as a third option or second option is fantastic because you know, as the season goes on, there’s going to be rotation, there’s going to be injuries”, Deeney added.

“So, I think he’d be a great option for a lot of teams. He’s won the Premier League, played in Europe, played for England.

“That’s a wonderful acquisition to add to your squad.

“For me, Jamie, he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing up. While he’s still got that pace, he’s an excellent buy for anybody.”

Vardy would excel under Moyes

It is worth noting that Vardy has previously been linked with a move to Everton, so it would not be a surprise if the Toffees pursued a move for him this summer.

The striker has contributed towards 10 goals for Leicester this season despite his age and there is no reason why he would not be a great squad player for the Merseyside-based club.

Everton may not have the resources to make big signings in every position, considering their PSR position, coupled with the contract situations in their squad.

That means Moyes would also have to settle for signing players like Vardy for free.

As Deeney said, the Leicester hitman would be a great option for Everton off the bench, as they look to end their time as regular relegation-battlers.
