Everton ‘line-up Beto alternative’ as Moyes identifies £20m star to bolster attack

Everton could be in line to find a replacement for Beto as David Moyes looks to improve his squad in the summer.

The Toffees will be eager to build on their progress under the Scot after picking up 21 points since his return to Merseyside in January.

This has seen the L4 club move far clear of relegation, sitting 17 points clear of the bottom three with six games remaining in the Premier League.

The summer window will now be growing in importance, and a move to replace Beto could be a top priority ahead of a move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

Everton could seek out Beto replacement in summer

There looked like a spell where the Toffees looked to have cracked the code with Beto as he became the go-to man in the early stage of Moyes’ reign.

This saw the Guinea-Bissau international net five Premier League goals in February before being nominated for the player of the month award.

After losing out on that title to Mohamed Salah, the 27-year-old has failed to net a single goal, missing a huge chance in the latest Merseyside derby at Anfield.

This could prompt the Toffees to take swift action in the summer window as an alternative option could be looked at, especially with Dominic Calvert-Lewin looking set to depart.

This could prove to be Albert Gudmundsson as the Blues are said to be tracking the Fiorentina forward throughout his loan spell at Fiorentina [TEAMtalk, 17 April].

If he is to return to Genoa at the end of the season, the Serie A outfit could demand £20million for his signature as Moyes looks to bolster his side’s forward options.

The Iceland international could prove to be a superb signing at Goodison as the forward profiles much better in creative areas than the Everton man.

Although Beto may showcase his defensive ability more frequently, his lack of attacking influence could ultimately cost the Toffees moving forward.

This could see Moyes make a move for Gudmundsson and utilise a change in tactical approach as he moves into his first full campaign back on Merseyside.

Gudmundsson could transform Everton

The Evertonians are set to be light on forward options as soon as the final whistle goes at St James’ Park on the final day against Newcastle United.

Armando Broja looks destined for a return to Chelsea after his loan, while Calvert-Lewin’s contract issues look unlikely to be resolved before the season ends.

This could see Gudmundsson come in as a perfect option for the Toffees as someone who could kickstart a change of approach at Goodison.

It will certainly be interesting to see how that impacts the future of Beto in L4, especially after being linked with a move away so frequently.
