Albert Guðmundsson ‘to take next step at Everton’ amid £20m transfer news
Everton could be in the market for a new striker this summer, as an update emerges on Albert Guðmundsson.
David Moyes will be keen to kick on with Everton at Bramley-Moore Dock next season.
However, to do that, the 61-year-old might need some reinforcements, especially with a host of players out of contract and expected to leave Everton at the end of the season, including Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Should Calvert-Lewin move on from Merseyside, with a move to Newcastle United on the cards, a new striker would be needed. Therefore, Guðmundsson could be a perfect signing for the Toffees.

Everton can sign Guðmundsson for £20million
Moyes is expected to hold talks with the Friedkin Group ahead of the summer transfer window.
Should Calvert-Lewin move on, the Toffees still have Beto. However, the 27-year-old’s form has dipped recently, and Moyes might be keen to bring a new striker in as an update emerges on Guðmundsson.

As reported by TEAMtalk (17 April), Everton are understood to be tracking Guðmundsson, who is on loan from Genoa at Fiorentina.
Fiorentina have an option to make the 27-year-old’s stay permanent. However, it is uncertain if the Italian side will take up that option. If they do not, Everton will have the chance to sign Guðmundsson for £20m.
As well as the Toffees, Inter Milan are showing an interest in the Icelandic forward. However, ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes a move to Everton could be a good next step for Guðmundsson.
“Iceland produce some good players,” King said.
“It is the same in countries like Norway and Sweden. You always get one or two outstanding players from that part of the world. I’m sure that a move to Everton, to work with Moyes, would be a good step in this player’s career.
“However, it is all going to depend on what happens with Calvert-Lewin and other players who are already at the football club.”

Guðmundsson could replace Calvert-Lewin at Everton
Despite his consistent injury setbacks, Calvert-Lewin is still an important part of the Everton squad. Therefore, should the Englishman move on, a new striker will be needed to provide competition for Beto.
And it looks as though Guðmundsson could be that replacement.
