Angus Kinnear raids Leeds already as Everton agree deal ahead of summer

Angus Kinnear does not join Everton as their CEO until 1 June, but is already pulling the strings at Goodison Park.

The Friedkin Group have overseen several behind-the-scenes changes at Everton since their takeover in December, with the appointment of Kinnear as their new chief executive perhaps being the biggest one.

Kinnear, who has played a pivotal role in Leeds’ successes in recent years, will leave the Elland Road to take office at Finch Farm at the end of the season.

As the Toffees prepare to move into their new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium, there is a lot of excitement about what might be in store this summer transfer window.

Kinnear raids Leeds for Everton

With Kevin Thelwell leaving his role as Everton’s director of football at the end of the season, Kinnear is expected to work closely with David Moyes over new signings.

The former West Ham executive has now struck a major coup for the Merseyside-based club’s recruitment department by roping in Nick Hammond from Leeds, according to Ben Jacobs.

Hammond has been working closely with Kinnear at Elland Road as a transfer consultant for Leeds, although he reduced his workload after several behind-the-scenes changes at LS11 during this season.

He will now make the switch to Everton along with Kinnear, but will not be a director replacement for Thelwell, as reported by the journalist via his personal X handle (23 April).

It remains to be seen if the Blues intend to give Hammond a permanent title, as opposed to keep him on their books as a consultant like Leeds.

Moyes to make major signings

Everton are in for a big summer transfer window, especially with 13 first-team players running out of their contracts at the end of the season.

This will also be Moyes’ first summer window after returning to Goodison Park, meaning he will be determined to strengthen his squad significantly.

Therefore, it will not be a surprise if Kinnear adds more firepower to the Toffees‘ recruitment department over the next few weeks.

The incoming CEO is reportedly looking to raid Leeds again, with Gary Penrice firmly on his radar.

Penrice holds a recruitment role with the Whites, but could follow Kinnear and Hammond to Merseyside.
