Alan Myers reacts to sensational Ross Barkley to Everton return news

Everton are waving goodbye to Goodison Park at the end of the season, and David Moyes will be keen to reshape his squad ahead of the Toffees’ first season at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Since Moyes returned to the Goodison Park dugout, the Blues have steered themselves to Premier League safety and can now look ahead to next season.

The Toffees have proven their solidity with results such as a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on 5 April and a 1-0 triumph over Nottingham Forest on 12 April.

With their top-flight status already secured, Everton can now look ahead to the transfer window amid speculation that Ross Barkley could be making a Merseyside return.

Alan Myers responds as Barkley linked with Everton return

Everton will be intent on having a strong campaign in their first season at Bramley-Moore Dock next term, and must therefore have a good transfer window.

The Cap posted on X: “Former Everton player Ross Barkley is about to secure a move back to the club.”

One Toffees fan asked Sky Sports’ News Alan Myers for clarity on the situation, to which he replied (2 April): “I don’t believe any decisions on players coming in have been made yet.”

Another user then added: “Cryptic this Al, you know it’s happening but won’t commit”, to which Myers responded: “No, I’m sure if a player like Ross Barkley is available the club would at least look at it, but I honestly don’t think any final decisions have been made about any players coming in.”

Barkley could be an ideal acquisition for Everton

Barkley is struggling for regular game time with Villa this term, and has made just three starts in the Premier League this season from a total of 18 top-flight outings.

But the Toffees academy graduate played the best football of his career in his time with Everton, before moving to Chelsea in January 2018.

The most productive season in Barkley’s career came for the Merseyside outfit back in 2015/16, when he scored 12 goals and created 11 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

But the former England international’s career took a turn for the worse after he joined Chelsea, while he also endured a poor loan spell with French Ligue 1 outfit Nice in 2022/23.

However, Barkley’s career got back on track last season, when he was a shining light for an otherwise struggling Luton side, who were relegated from the Premier League.

While the 31-year-old has failed to nail down regular game time in Villa colours, Everton could help him revitalise his career once more.
