Ferguson wants ‘Dream’ Everton job in new manager admission

Everton have enjoyed a stellar second half to the season under David Moyes, which has seen them rise well clear of the relegation zone.

Moyes was appointed as Toffees boss in January of this year, with the Merseyside club positioned in 16th place and just three wins from 19 matches.

Since then, the North West side has only lost four in 15 and are even sitting above their manager’s former side, Manchester United, in the table.

While the 62-year-old’s position as Everton boss is secure, there is one man who is desperate to land his job in the future.

Ferguson would love another crack at the Everton job

The Toffees will bid farewell to Goodison Park over the coming weeks as they prepare to move to their new home, Bramley-Moore Dock.

Goodison Park had played host to some incredible memories over the years, with Moyes at the heart of several of those moments.

Another person who has significantly contributed to those times is Duncan Ferguson, who is eyeing a dream return to the Everton dugout.

The former Scotland international made 272 appearances for the club and oversaw five games as caretaker manager over two separate spells.

He expressed his desire to return to the North West outfit as manager when speaking to The Mirror, who say he is “desperate”.

Ferguson said: “I want to be on that touchline for Everton. I want to manage Everton. That is my dream…

“I know it is a long way off at the moment, but football can move very quickly and, don’t forget, I have managed in the Premier League.”

Ferguson has some way to go before achieving Everton dream

Ferguson’s words were very candid during his interview with the tabloid, and it would be hard to disagree with what he had to say.

Prior to his start in management, the former Newcastle United man had spells as caretaker manager at Goodison, following the sackings of Marco Silva and Rafa Benitez.

The 53-year-old endured a torrid start to life in management with Forest Green, where he lasted just 18 games.

During his spell with the then League One club, Ferguson managed only one win and picked up six points.

To be fair to Big Dunc, Forest Green were punching well above their weight, meaning his stint at the New Lawn is hard to judge.

Since then, he suffered another trying stint with Inverness, where he oversaw the club’s relegation from the Scottish Championship and administration in 2024.

Everton will feel like a pipedream for Ferguson right now, and he must enjoy some successful jobs in management before achieving his ultimate dream.
