Everton have Sean Longstaff answer as huge Newcastle transfer update emerges

Everton are interested in signing Sean Longstaff from Newcastle this summer transfer window.

The Toffees are braced for a busy summer transfer window, with 13 first-team players running out of their contracts at the end of the season.

This will also be David Moyes’ first major window after returning to Goodison Park, meaning The Friedkin Group are expected to back him significantly.

Midfield is an area that needs to be addressed, as Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye are near the end of their contracts, and Orel Mangala and Carlos Alcaraz are due to leave Goodison Park when their loan deals run out.

Everton hot on heels of Longstaff

Longstaff is one player Everton could rope in to strengthen their options in midfield.

The Merseyside-based club wanted to sign the 27-year-old in the winter transfer window, but was met with resistance from Newcastle.

However, the midfielder wants to seek more first-team playing time after being restricted to just 12 starts across all competitions this season, according to The i.

The newspaper reported via their website on Thursday (8 May) that Longstaff’s lack of involvement could suggest that he is available for a transfer this season, although Newcastle triggered a contract extension earlier this season.

With the Englishman’s contract with the Magpies running out next year, he could be available for a sensible transfer fee this summer.

However, Everton are not the only club interested in signing Longstaff, with Leeds United also credited with an interest in him.

Longstaff could leave Newcastle this summer.

Longstaff could join Moyes

With Longstaff desperate for more playing time, Everton know what they need to do to convince him to join them this summer.

The Merseyside-based club will likely have the upper hand in the race to sign the midfielder if they can offer him a regular spot in Moyes’ starting lineup.

While Leeds are also interested in the Newcastle-born player, they are well stocked in midfield, with the likes of Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev in their ranks.
