Danny Murphy gutted by Everton development despite what he’s heard – ‘I’m told…’

Everton face one of the busiest summers in their history as they prepare to leave Goodison Park.

David Moyes has a massive summer ahead as he aims to build on his successful first five months back at the Merseyside club.

Signings are expected to help improve the team, with Everton eyeing a move for Ipswich’s Liam Delap.

However, the biggest talking point of the summer is no doubt the Toffees’ move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. Yet, despite the excitement, Danny Murphy is unsure if Everton are making the right decision.

Murphy is ‘unsure’ if Everton’s new stadium will replicate the glory of Goodison Park

Everton’s final game at Goodison Park is set to take place next weekend when they face relegated Southampton.

The match will bring to an end a 133-year stay at the ground as they prepare to move to Bramley-Moore Dock.

Moving stadiums is always a controversial move, especially when you are leaving a ground as historic as Goodison Park.

Now, Murphy has expressed his doubts on whether the decision is a wise one, despite Everton’s efforts to replicate a similar style at the new ground.

He told Mail on Sunday, page 89, (11 May): “Everton are the latest club leaving their ancestral home for a new stadium and, while I appreciate the commercial reasoning, it saddens me as a football player, broadcaster and, most importantly, fan.

“In time, the new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock will create its own memories but, judging by what has happened at other clubs, I’m not sure it will ever replicate the glory of Goodison Park.”

He added: “I’m told it’s been designed with the seats as close to the pitch as they are at Goodison, rather than the gap which can make West Ham’s London Stadium feel relatively soulless.

“Come August, Evertonians will feel a buzz at seeing their new home. But I still regret we’re losing the kind of stadiums I enjoyed playing in.”

Goodison Park is irreplaceable for Everton

As much as the new stadium looks world-class, it is going to be hard for new fans to forgot Goodison Park in a hurry.

The memories that supporters have at the current ground have lasted for generations, with numerous Everton legends playing at the stadium.

While there is no doubt that the move to Bramley-Moore Dock will help more fans watch the games and bring in more money for the club, it will take a significant amount of time until it feels like home.

However, if Moyes can turn the stadium into a fortress, victories will quickly make the adjustment easier.
