Everton player admits he may have just delivered ‘send-off’ before exit

David Moyes has plenty of work to do at Everton this summer, as he prepares for his first proper transfer window as Blues boss.

The Friedkin Group are expected to back the Scotsman over the summer as they prepare for a move to Bramley-Moore Dock to kick off a new era.

Although Moyes has upped the standards in his side significantly since returning to Goodison Park, there remains work to be done in order to secure long-term growth.

Michael Keane offers verdict on Everton future

As the Toffees prepare for their move to Bramley-Moore Dock, under new ownership and having replaced their manager during the campaign, it certainly feels as though a new period is underway.

Although Moyes has links with Everton’s history, there has been a move away from the difficult times that the Blues had to endure for so long under their old ownership.

Therefore, the boss is expected to make plenty of changes on Merseyside this summer, especially with the number of players who are out of contract.

One man approaching the end of his deal is Michael Keane, who has made just 12 Premier League appearances this season.

The 32-year-old was on the scoresheet as his side beat Fulham 3-1 on Saturday (10 May), but has admitted he doesn’t know what the future holds.

When asked, he told the Liverpool Echo: “I don’t know, honestly. I’ve not had any conversations about it yet.

“We’ll see what happens in the summer. This is my eighth year here and I’ve loved it.

“It’s obviously been up and down, but I love the club, and I love playing for Everton, so I’m just glad I got to show what I can do today, and we’ll see what happens.”

While the defender admitted he has no clear view on what comes next, when asked if his goal could be a send-off, he said: “Exactly. It would be a nice send-off, but let’s see.”

Everton have to part ways with Keane

Keane has a fairly good goal return this season, with three in his 12 league appearances, but this cannot be enough for Everton to extend his future past the end of the campaign.

The defender has been a good servant to the Toffees over several seasons and will surely depart from Everton with plenty of well wishes from the supporters.

However, Moyes has made it clear that he is looking to bring youth into his side ahead of the new campaign, as part of the refresh that needs to happen, and Keane doesn’t align with that aim.

With James Tarkowski picking up an injury, it has allowed his teammate to get some minutes before the season is over, but otherwise, he would not have been given the chance.

Therefore, his admission of a potential send-off seems to be a big hint that he knows his time is up.
