Everton ready Sean Longstaff transfer as price emerges for Newcastle warchest

David Moyes is looking to overhaul his Everton squad in the summer transfer window, in the hope of pushing up the Premier League table next season.

The Scotsman has rejuvenated the Blues since his return to Goodison Park this season and in their first proper transfer window as owners, The Friedkin Group are expected to show their support financially.

With several players out of contract on Merseyside, the boss is expected to let a fair few go and bring fresh faces into his squad as replacements.

One man on the list of targets is Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United.

Everton given price for Longstaff transfer

Although the new owners at Goodison will be eager to increase the investment in the side, the Toffees have plenty of work to do and need to be shrewd in their business.

Longstaff has been on the radar at Everton for some time, and an exit from Newcastle at the end of the campaign looks likely, with the midfielder having made just eight Premier League starts this season.

Furthermore, with the 27-year-old about to enter the final year of his contract at St James’ Park, the Magpies have a good reason to sell now as they try to work around the Premier League’s PSR rules.

According to TeamTalk (13 May), Everton would have to cough up a fee of £12million.

The report states that the Blues could be facing Premier League competition from the likes of Leeds and Manchester United and that Longstaff will be prioritising first-team football.

However, Moyes seems to be a fan with Longstaff viewed as a key target, with Newcastle ready to cash in to increase their warchest.

Dan Friedkin is the Everton owner.

Longstaff would be strong signing for Everton

It’s understandable that Newcastle want to cash in on Longstaff at this stage and the fee of £12m is something that TFG’s investment will be able to deal with.

Moyes is seemingly fond of the midfielder, and given he is searching for a balance of youth and experience, in comparison to what already exists at Everton, Longstaff fits that description.

The Geordie may have lacked game time for his home town club this season, but with the level of talent in that Newcastle squad now, the competition is too high for him to regularly compete.

Longstaff’s role at Newcastle is declining.

Nevertheless, Longstaff has been a mainstay in the Magpies’ side for years, playing a big part in their turnaround, showing exactly what he has to give.

As an experienced player who has always shown eagerness to push on, Everton should push to beat their Premier League rivals to this one that would suit them well.
