Everton open transfer talks as Alcaraz development emerges

Everton are reportedly keen on signing Charly Alcaraz permanently in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old moved to Goodison Park on loan from Flamengo in January and has been an important first-team player since then.

He made his first league start for the Toffees in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace in February and he even provided an assist in that game.

Paul Joyce claims Blues are in talks with Alcaraz and Flamengo

Everton announced on 26 May that Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrom, Orel Mangala and Armando Broja will return to their parent clubs.

However, the statement did not mention the same about Alcaraz as they’re keen on retaining his services beyond this summer.

According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce, the Toffees are in talks with the Argentine midfielder and his club over a deal.

He has impressed David Moyes since his loan move in January and the Scotsman is believed to be keen on retaining his services.

Joyce wrote on X: “Everton are in discussions with Charly Alcaraz and Brazilian side Flamengo over a deal. Jack Harrison, Jesper Lindstrøm, Orel Mangala and Armando Broja will return to their parent clubs when their loan deals expire at the end of next month.”

Everton must sign Alcaraz permanently

Everton must prioritise securing a permanent deal for Alcaraz this summer to bolster their midfield and align with their long-term ambitions under The Friedkin Group.

The 22-year-old Argentine has shown flashes of dynamism, technical ability and versatility in midfield, offering a blend of creativity and tenacity that Everton’s squad desperately needs.

With a number of departures already straining squad depth, retaining Alcaraz would provide stability and continuity in the engine room.

His ability to contribute both defensively and offensively, as evidenced by his work rate and occasional goal-scoring flair, makes him a valuable asset for Moyes’ system.

A permanent move, potentially costing around £15million, would be cost-effective compared to chasing pricier alternatives.

Furthermore, his youth aligns with building a squad for the future, especially as Everton aim to compete higher up the Premier League.

By negotiating early with Flamengo, the seven-time league winners, the Blues can secure Alcaraz, ensuring midfield depth and quality for the 2025-26 season and beyond.
