Charlie Adam exit update as Everton coach wants new manager appointment

Everton are set to undergo changes on and off the pitch this summer as the Toffees look to return to the top half of the Premier League.

David Moyes finally has a chance to reshape his squad as he takes charge of his first pre-season since returning to the Merseyside club.

It is set to be a massive few months for Everton as they move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium, ready for the 2025/26 campaign.

On top of this, multiple members of Everton’s backroom staff are set to leave, with Kevin Thelwell having already announced his departure to Rangers.

Now, Charlie Adam could be set to add to this list after a recent report.

Charlie Adam ‘interested’ in becoming manager at Dundee

Adam had a successful career in the Premier League before he eventually moved to Scotland in 2020.

At Dundee, the midfielder was made captain and oversaw their victory in the Scottish Premiership play-offs in the 2020/21 campaign.

After retiring in 2022, he went into coaching and was the manager of Fleetwood Town for a period before he became the set-piece coach at Everton in January 2025.

However, he could now be set to leave the Toffees and return to management, according to the Daily Record (28 May, pg 46).

The newspaper states that Adam is interested in becoming Dundee’s new manager.

The Dark Blues have drawn up a list of candidates and plan to speak to more than 10 potential managers, after recently sacking the popular Tony Docherty.

It is unknown if Adam is currently on the shortlist to take over at Dens Park, though.

Moyes must secure long-term backroom staff hires

If Adam is to leave Everton, it would be yet another major departure in Moyes’ backroom staff.

This is simply unacceptable and would put the Merseyside club at a major disadvantage going into the new campaign, as new hires will once again be required.

Moyes must ensure that he has a secure, long-term coaching staff behind him and limit the potential departures to keep a stable environment.

Hopefully, once the new season gets underway, Everton’s backroom staff changes will finally come to an end, as they look firmly forward once again.
