Everton alerted to Matt O’Riley transfer as Brighton sale update emerges

Everton are on hold over the potential signing of Matt O’Riley from Brighton.

The Denmark international joined the Seagulls last summer but could already become available after a difficult debut campaign.

This could see David Moyes’ side step in and take advantage as the Toffees look to have a positive full season, after being taken over mid-campaign by the Scot.

The 62-year-old is likely to have his eyes set on a number of additions in the summer window, with O’Riley now emerging as a potential target.

Everton keen on Matt O’Riley transfer at Brighton

With the Friedkins in charge on Merseyside, it is clear that there is no messing around with the transfer window now open, if only for 10 days.

This has already seen a permanent move for Carlos Alcaraz be completed within just days of the Premier League campaign finishing.

Moyes could be set to add to the Argentinian with O’Riley, who has had a difficult season after moving from the Scottish Premiership.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas reported on 1 June that the Toffees would be keen on a deal for the Dane, if Brighton were willing to sanction a move.

The Evertonians would face stern competition from across Europe as uncertainty continues to build around the ex-Celtic man at the Amex.

Now the L4 club will await an update from the Seagulls to see if there is any indication that a transfer for O’Riley could be possible this summer.

O’Riley could represent coup for Everton

There is no doubt that the Toffees’ Scottish head coach has managed to get the best out of his squad since returning to Merseyside.

As a result, he will be keen to build on the early success by adding some star names to his squad, ready for the new campaign.

This will especially be the case in the midfield with Abdoulaye Doucoure departing at the end of his current deal.

A replacement option for the Mali international could prove to be O’Riley who could be superb for Everton, if given the chance to shine.

It will certainly be interesting to see if Brighton will sanction a move and whether the 24-year-old would welcome a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
