Newcastle open door for £60m Everton mega signing by TFG

Everton could beat Newcastle United to a big-name summer signing.

The Toffees are destined for a busy window, having already parted ways with a number of first-team assets at the end of the campaign.

This will also coincide with the first pre-season transfer window under the guidance of the Friedkin Group, who will be keen on having a positive impact on the squad in L4.

With that in mind, the opportunity to go head-to-head with Newcastle for a £60million signing could now be in the pipeline on Merseyside.

Everton challenge Newcastle United for summer transfer

After a superb second half of the season, there is plenty to be excited about for Evertonians under the tutelage of David Moyes.

This can only be seen as a positive when it comes to attracting talent in the hope of having an even better year under the Scot next time around.

Jack Grealish has already emerged as a target at Goodison, but with interest from Champions League outfit Newcastle, it may have proven difficult to land his signature.

That could be set to change ahead of the upcoming window, with The Chronicle reporting on 10 June (page 43) that the Magpies’ interest has been played down by sources close to the 29-year-old.

The England international could be available for a cut-price fee of £60m, with a loan deal also potentially possible at Manchester City.

The drop in interest from Eddie Howe’s side now looks to have opened the door for Everton, although the attacking midfielder’s wages may represent a concern for the Friedkins.

Grealish could sign for Everton from Manchester City

It is fair to say that the former Aston Villa star would prove to be the sort of marquee signing that the American owners want on Merseyside.

This has already seen Richarlison linked strongly with an L4 return, but those funds could now be focused in on the Englishman at City.

If he could rediscover his form from his Villa days or early Etihad showings, Everton could get themselves a perfect talisman.

This will be excellent for the Toffees as they prepare to move into the Hill Dickinson Stadium, ready for the new campaign, with Grealish potentially set to play a key role.
