Everton in talks to sign new goalkeeper amid ‘huge’ Jordan Pickford decision

Everton could be in line to sign a new goalkeeper ready for the new campaign.

The Toffees have recently parted ways with both Joao Virginia and Asmir Begovic, so they will be in desperate need of new options.

This is likely to see David Moyes consider a number of options, who are likely to play second fiddle to Jordan Pickford as the number one.

With that being said, with the transfer window opening in a matter of days, the future of the England international could be at risk.

Everton could now sign Pickford alternative

There is hardly a large number of top-class goalkeepers in the Premier League right now, but the 31-year-old is certainly an example of this.

Since signing from Sunderland, the shot-stopper has grown into his role and become the undisputed number one for both club and country.

As a result, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there were to be some sort of interest in his signature moving into the summer window in L4.

This has seen Alan Nixon report (11 June) that the Toffees are keen on landing direct competition for Pickford in the shape of Walter Benitez.

The 32-year-old is available on a free transfer after leaving PSV Eindhoven and is in talks over a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium ready of the new campaign.

The Argentina international is wanted as a backup to the Englishman on Merseyside, but he is seemingly unsure about being a number two and the lack of opportunities that come with that.

Pickford could scupper Everton move for Benitez

It is no secret that the Toffees are in the running to sign a new keeper to help add depth to their squad under Moyes.

This has already seen Sheffield United ace Mike Cooper be linked with a move, but the position of Pickford could cause problems.

Having such a high-quality option in between the sticks means that anyone else who joins is destined for very few Premier League minutes.

This could make any move for a new keeper very difficult, but it will be a requirement after the early exits of Virginia and Begovic.
