Everton shake hands on exit agreement as player breaks silence already

David Moyes has already made some big changes to his Everton squad in preparation for next season.

After his arrival at Goodison Park earlier in the campaign, Moyes has revitalised things, but this summer it is key to push that even further.

The Friedkin Group are set to provide the necessary investment to make the additions to strengthen the squad, but exits are on the cards too.

The Toffees have already announced the decision to part ways with Asmir Begovic, Ashley Young, Joao Virginia and Abdoulaye Doucoure upon the ends of their contracts this June.

Begovic opens up on Everton exit

Everton are in a transformational place this summer.

Under new management both on and off the pitch, as well as preparing for a move to Bramley-Moore Dock, there is set to be plenty of change.

Offloading the four released players, with a combined age of 133 isn’t a massively controversial move from Moyes, although it does represent the need to part ways with those who have been servants to the Toffees.

After seasons of difficulties and mismanagement at Goodison Park, saying goodbye to the players who carried the Blues through those times is somewhat tough.

However, refreshing the squad with younger blood and fresher legs will certainly allow supporters to look ahead with more optimism this summer.

Speaking to The Athletic about his exit from Merseyside (12 June), Begovic has admitted he leaves with no hard feelings, shaking hands on the decision.

The 37-year-old said: “They wanted to change direction a bit and bring in new blood.

“For me, it was easy. No hard feelings. You respect the decision. We gave it everything and shook hands, having done our job. That’s what makes it something you look back on with some fondness.”

Moyes prepared to be ruthless at Everton

Moyes is doing exactly what needs to be done at Everton, taking steps towards a new squad.

Begovic has had two spells with the Merseyside outfit, but his contributions have probably been more off the pitch rather than in games, with Jordan Pickford making game time very limited.

Begovic has had limited minutes for Everton.

With that in mind, you can understand his response to leaving Goodison Park this summer, and now, a new opportunity has already arisen.

The goalkeeper is now set to join Sarajevo, in what has been labelled as a “done deal” and returning to his homeland is surely something that he will be excited for.

Those leaving Everton this summer deserve plenty of credit for their efforts in Blue, but Moyes has to look towards the future now.
