Everton ‘set for big signing’ as Alan Myers shares Kyle Walker twist
Everton have been linked with Manchester City defender Kyle Walker and Villarreal striker Thierno Barry in recent days.
David Moyes wants to strengthen in multiple areas, but is prioritising a new full-back and a number nine.
As Ashley Young and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be leaving Everton, the club are eyeing replacements for them.

Alan Myers pours cold water on Walker transfer links
Former Sky Sports news editor Alan Myers was asked about the Toffees’ pursuit of Barry and Walker.
He claimed that Everton are genuinely interested in signing Barry in the coming weeks.
If they are to sign the French striker, it will be a big one as they will have to shell out quite a fee to complete the transfer.
However, he has poured cold water on links to Walker, admitting that they’re not as interested in him as the 22-year-old.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Man City | 319 | 6 | 23 |
Tottenham | 229 | 4 | 18 |
Sheff Utd | 35 | – | 4 |
QPR | 20 | – | 4 |
Aston Villa | 18 | 2 | 3 |
AC Milan | 16 | – | – |
Northampton | 9 | – | – |
It was understood that the Toffees had made an approach to bring the Manchester City defender to Merseyside. (Ben Jacobs, 16 June)
As things stand, that deal or the Barry one is not imminent.
Via X, Myers wrote: “I’m told we’re interested in Barry and not so much Walker, but chances of signing either or both couldn’t say for sure, don’t think anything is imminent but let’s see.”
Everton must avoid signing Walker this summer
Everton should avoid signing Walker this summer as the 35-year-old Manchester City right-back is past his prime and has visibly slowed down, diminishing his once-elite pace and defensive agility.
With the Toffees needing to build for the future under Moyes, investing in younger, dynamic players aligns better with their long-term Premier League ambitions.
The England international’s high wages and likely short-term contract would strain their budget, limiting funds for other defensive signings or attacking reinforcements.
While Walker’s experience is valuable, his declining physicality would not make him an ideal fit for the Premier League, making younger alternatives more strategic fits for sustained progress.
