‘Everton to learn Fred transfer reality’ as contract twist emerges

Everton have been linked with a surprise move to bring Fred back to the Premier League this summer.

The former Manchester United man has spent the last two seasons with Fenerbahce, after enduring a mixed time at Old Trafford during his five-year stint.

Fred could be available for as little as £15.3million this summer, as David Moyes is keen to bring him to the Hill Dickinson Stadium in a bid to strengthen the Toffees’ midfield.

The Brazilian has two years left on his contract with the Turkish giants, but The Friedkin Group may be prepared to bring him back to England this summer and provide Moyes with the man he wants.

Anguissa contract talks show Everton Fred reality

Fenerbahce had initially been reluctant to sell Fred, but then news emerged that would have provided renewed hope for Everton that they could pull off a deal.

The Turkish side’s pursuit of Frank Anguissa would have given Everton a boost, as Jose Mourinho’s side appeared to be lining up a replacement for Fred, but that situation has now likely changed.

Anguissa is now set to enter talks with Napoli over a new contract in Italy, according to Fotospor (20 June).

That latest development surrounding the Cameroon international will have shown Everton the reality of their Fred chase, in that they are unlikely to be able to secure a deal.

With Fenerbahce’s desired replacement now potentially off the table, it would be no surprise to see Mourinho revert to his original stance on Fred, and ensure the 32-year-old remains at the club, thus ending any genuine hopes of the Toffees securing a deal.

Everton should give up on Fred

Everton need to add to their midfield this summer as Abdoulaye Doucoure departs, and Fred would certainly have raised eyebrows when he was mooted as a potential option.

He received criticism from some quarters for his somewhat erratic style during his United stint, but Moyes clearly believed that he could find greater value in the Brazilian.

Now, though, the Merseysiders would be better served turning their attention elsewhere.

Their pursuit of Fred has all the hallmarks of a deal which could drag on for a prolonged period, and with the hope being that they can secure several new signings, that is the last thing that Everton need.

As a result, the Blues should settle on missing out on the midfielder and instead turn their attention to other targets, who could perhaps be easier to bring in.
