Fred ‘has chance for Man United’ revenge as shock Everton transfer details emerge

Everton have let a lot of experienced players leave this summer, and could now turn to a surprising option to replace them in Fenerbahce midfielder Fred.

Ashley Young, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all departed on free transfers, and all three brought a lot of Premier League experience to the dressing room.

Everton have strengthened their midfield with the permanent signing of Carlos Alcaraz, but could aim to recruit more experienced central options.

Former Manchester United star Fred departed for Turkish side Fenerbahce two years ago, but could now make a shock return to the Premier League with Everton.

Mourinho happy to sign off on Fred transfer to Everton

Fred was an inconsistent performer at United, as an occasional masterclass would then be followed by a poor display, but he has performed well under Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.

The 32-year-old is an important part of the squad in Istanbul, but Turkish Football (30 June) have now reported via sources that Everton are keen to sign him this summer.

Fred could be allowed to leave for a minimum of £15million, with Mourinho happy to sign off on the deal as he wants to sign Yves Bissouma from Tottenham.

David Moyes is said to be actively looking for an experienced option in midfield, and Fred could be targeted following his resurgence at Fenerbahce.

Fred could bring experience to Everton

Fred has established himself as a more reliable midfielder under Mourinho, both in terms of consistency and fitness, and he made 45 appearances across all competitions last season.

The Brazilian can play both as a deep midfielder as well as further up the pitch, and despite his reputation, he could be a solid addition to the Everton squad.

Fred could also see the move as a chance to further prove that Man United were wrong to let him go, with the Red Devils falling further down the table since he departed two years ago.

However, a deal should only be sanctioned if his asking price can be negotiated lower. A sum of £15m for an ageing player who may only be seen as a short-term signing may not align with a long-term vision with regard to Everton’s transfer policy.

The midfielder made 213 appearances for Man United, and could make an instant impact like veterans such as Gareth Barry have in the past, but for now a deal seems way off with the asking price at its current level.
