Thierno Barry ‘medical imminent’ as Everton on brink of first transfer

Villarreal striker Thierno Barry may be on his way to Everton this summer transfer window as David Moyes looks for a new number nine.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could possibly join Leeds United after leaving the Toffees as a free agent, ending his nine-year stint at Goodison Park.

Armando Broja also returned to Chelsea after his loan spell with the Blues expired, and the Scottish manager evidently needs reinforcements up front.

Barry has been linked with a move to Bramley-Moore Dock for some time now, and it looks like the Merseyside outfit will finally be getting their centre-forward target.

Everton one step away from Barry transfer

Barry is one step away from signing for the Toffees from Villarreal, according to Matteo Moretto.

The reliable journalist revealed on X (1 July) that the Blues are on the brink of getting the 22-year-old forward from the La Liga outfit.

With the Merseyside outfit possibly reaching an agreement with the Spanish club soon, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the French striker undergoing his medical in the coming days.

The centre-forward has a contract until 2029 at Estadio de la Ceramica, with a release clause of around £34million, and it remains to be seen whether that will be triggered.

Moyes needs more than Barry transfer at Hill Dickinson Stadium

Liam Delap seemed like Moyes’ preferred choice at the Toffees, but with the former Ipswich Town striker joining Chelsea, other targets have been explored.

While Barry possesses a lot of potential, it will be interesting to see how he fares in the Premier League if the Blues sign him.

The Merseyside outfit arguably need more than just one new striker this summer after Calvert-Lewin and Broja’s departures.

Everton have Beto at their disposal, but the Guinea-Bissau international is attracting interest from elsewhere and may want to leave if game time is not guaranteed at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Scottish manager did well stabilising the ship at the Toffees and helping them finish 13th in the Premier League, but he will need a much more competitive squad to make further progress.

Moyes will undoubtedly need a reliable goalscorer next season if the Blues are to succeed, and Barry’s arrival may not be enough.

How the French youngster’s situation progresses will be interesting to see as fans wait for their first incoming transfer this summer.
