Everton ready to seal Luiz transfer as mega fire sale set to begin

Everton were backed for a substantial overhaul this summer, but things have remained quiet so far.

Carlos Alcaraz became David Moyes’ first signing of the window, turning his loan move into a permanent stay at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, Everton missed out on Kenny Tete, who signed a new three-year deal to remain at Fulham.

Now, the Toffees are targeting further Premier League experience in the form of Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz.

Luiz set for Everton return amid Everton interest

The Toffees have several holes to fill as Dominic Calvert-Lewin headlined a cluster of departures at Everton.

No fewer than eight players have left the Merseyside outfit, with Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, and Mason Holgate also leaving.

Now, Everton are one of several Premier League clubs linked with a move for former Aston Villa midfielder Luiz.

The Brazilian is liked by the Toffees as well as Manchester United, Newcastle, and Fulham, according to Corriere dello Sport in its print edition (8 July, pg 6).

They report that while there is also interest from Serie A side Como, a move to England is more likely.

The Italian newspaper states that Juventus are targeting £86million and more in sales, with their entire team available.

Luiz made 19 appearances for the Old Lady last season, but only three of those were starts in an underwhelming campaign.

Toffees should target reduced Luiz fee

Given Luiz’s forgettable season in Turin, he must surely be available for a reduced fee this summer.

The 27-year-old joined the Serie A giants for £42.3million last year from Villa Park, but he has not lived up to his price tag.

While his last campaign was poor, adapting to a new league and way of life is not always so seamless.

In England, Luiz performed admirably for Villa and notched 19 goal contributions in all competitions during his last season.

Furthermore, when looking at Moyes’ current options in central midfield, it is clear that he needs more quality.

Given that there is likely to be serious competition for the Brazilian international, Everton would be wise to make the first move and lure Luiz to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
