Man United to pay ‘substantial signing-on fee’ to sign Calvert-Lewin – Exclusive

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent departure from Everton will have left many people wondering what could have been for the striker.

The frontman had been a key figure for the Toffees for large parts of his eight-year stint on Merseyside, but his influence has gradually waned in recent years.

Injuries have become increasingly prevalent for the 28-year-old, and he has started less than 20 league games in three of the last four Premier League seasons.

Calvert-Lewin is now being linked with a move to Manchester United, and it is expected that his next destination will become clear sooner rather than later.

Calvert-Lewin to receive a substantial signing-on fee at United

Calvert-Lewin’s Everton departure will have been an emotional one, given that he had been at Goodison Park since the age of 19.

However, with his Toffees spell now in the past, attention has turned towards his next club. Despite his injury issues in recent years, the frontman has plenty of suitors now that he is a free agent, with numerous clubs from both the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe keen on him.

However, it is United who have provided the strongest links in recent days. Calvert-Lewin has received criticism from some quarters recently, and it’s fair to say it wouldn’t be the most glamorous signing for the Red Devils.

Ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes that it would be a fairly disappointing deal for Ruben Amorim’s side, but also that it could play perfectly into the striker’s hands.

“This sounds like a cheap option for United,” King said.

“Calvert-Lewin has been in and out of the Everton side; he’s run his contract down. United have been linked with a lot of big-money players, and suddenly they’re going for a free transfer.

“It emphasises how United are cutting back on everything. However, for Calvert-Lewin, it would be a fantastic move. He’ll probably get a substantial signing-on fee.”

Everton must have no regrets over Calvert-Lewin

If The Friedkin Group truly want to progress Everton effectively, then it goes without saying that they must be prepared to make numerous ruthless decisions along the way.

Calvert-Lewin’s last four Premier League campaigns.

Calvert-Lewin has served the Toffees extremely well over the years, but over the last few seasons, he simply hasn’t been the player that he once was.

He hasn’t broken into double figures in a single campaign in any of the last four years, and Everton must ensure they don’t have any regrets about allowing him to walk away on a free transfer.

David Moyes will be hopeful of taking the team to the next level this term, but that won’t be possible without upgrades to the squad. Unfortunately for the striker, his recent form wasn’t good enough to convince Everton that they should have done everything they could to keep him.
