Everton make John McGinn bid decision as Aston Villa respond
Everton are reportedly keen on bringing Aston Villa attacking midfielder John McGinn to Merseyside this summer.
Having confirmed the signing of Thierno Barry from Villarreal, the Toffees are still keen on adding to their firepower in the final third.
David Moyes is keen on McGinn, with the Blues pursuing the services of the Scotland international.

Aston Villa do not want to sell McGinn
According to Give Me Sport (9 July), Villa are not keen on parting ways with the 30-year-old.
The Toffees have decided not to make an offer as they’re unlikely to convince the Birmingham outfit to sell the attacking midfielder.
Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
---|---|---|---|
Aston Villa | 285 | 30 | 40 |
Hibernian FC | 136 | 17 | 29 |
St. Mirren | 98 | 4 | 7 |
Moyes is keen on adding experience in the middle of the park, which is why he was prioritising a move for McGinn.
However, the Toffees boss will now have to consider alternatives to the Villa star.

Everton would’ve benefited from signing McGinn this summer
McGinn is a fantastic player who’s drawn praise from pundits as well as rival managers.
Back when Jurgen Klopp was in charge of Liverpool, he waxed lyrical over the Villa star.
He said: “Everybody agrees when you look at Villa, the players they have brought in make massive sense.
“They have speed in the wings, Watkins up front, McGinn is super smart, physical as well, but really looking for balls in behind.”
McGinn would be an excellent signing due to his dynamic midfield presence and proven Premier League quality.
The Aston Villa captain brings relentless energy, which would bolster Everton’s defensive solidity in their relegation fight.
His ability to drive forward and contribute offensively adds versatility to a Toffees side lacking creativity.
McGinn’s leadership and experience in high-pressure situations align perfectly with Everton’s need for resilient characters.
At 30, his work rate and adaptability make him a cost-effective, immediate impact player to stabilise and elevate their midfield.
