Everton ‘get Nicolas Tagliafico answer’ as transfer demands emerge
Everton are laying down the foundations for their impending move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Not only have they made new signings, but Everton have also tied down Jarrad Branthwaite to a new statement five-year deal.
Thierno Barry has finally joined David Moyes and the Toffees, following Carlos Alcaraz to Merseyside in a £27.5million deal.
Now, they have effectively been given an answer by Nicolas Tagliafico after reports emerged from Spain.

Tagliafico provides reasons for transfer snub
Reports suggested that Everton were in a strong position to sign Tagliafico, who is currently a free agent.
The World Cup winner departed Lyon at the end of June, having made just over 100 appearances for the French club.
Last season, the 32-year-old made eight goal contributions from left back in all competitions for Les Gones as they reached the Europa League semi-finals.
Nicolas Tagliafico’s 2024/25 Ligue 1 statistics | Total |
Appearances | 24 |
Goals | 3 |
Assists | 1 |
Touches | 68.2 |
Accurate passes | 42.8 (88%) |
Clean sheets | 5 |
Now, the former Ajax man has turned down a move to La Liga side Real Oviedo, according to La Voz de Asturias (10 July).
They report that the defender is asking for a salary that is impossible for the Spanish club and that he wants a project that plays in a European competition.
If possible, Tagliafico wants to play in the Champions League, and now Oviedo will move on to other targets.
That news effectively ends Everton’s hopes of landing the left-back as they will only be playing domestic football next season.
Of course, anything can happen in the window, and if the Toffees offer the Argentine enough money, then he will have a decision to make.
For now, though, the Merseyside outfit must consider other options if they are to shore up the left side of their defence.

Everton need competition for Vitaliy Mykolenko
While Mykolenko has been a steady performer for the Toffees, one natural left-back is not enough for Moyes.
The Ukrainian made 35 Premier League appearances last season, notching three goal contributions.
However, Everton must provide competition for the 26-year-old and need cover in every position.
Most of the Merseyside club’s transfer links have been with attacking players, but that must change after the Tagliafico news.
