Everton given warning ahead of John McGinn transfer
Everton have been linked with a move for Aston Villa attacking midfielder John McGinn this summer.
Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, assessed his hamstring and thigh issues last season ahead of a potential transfer.
The 30-year-old still managed to play 34 out of 38 Premier League games in the 2024/25 campaign.

McGinn’s hamstring and thigh injuries may be a concern
The Toffees are likely to consider the Scotland international’s hamstring and thigh issues before making a decision to sign him, according to Dr Brar.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said about McGinn: “Everton may take a closer look at the recent history of hamstring and thigh injuries to assess risk of recurrence and determine if there are any outlier or high-risk issues.
“He had both of them last season, which kept him out for two games each.
“I would not call this a red flag, but a yellow flag, most certainly.”

Everton need to move on from their McGinn pursuit
Everton must abandon their pursuit of McGinn, as his commitment to Villa’s European campaign and his high wages make a transfer unlikely and financially impractical.
His role as their captain and his 10 goal involvements in the 2024/25 season, and 203 in his Premier League career, underline his importance, reducing any chance of him leaving.
| Club | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aston Villa | 285 | 30 | 40 |
| Hibernian FC | 136 | 17 | 29 |
| St. Mirren | 98 | 4 | 7 |
Instead, the Toffees should target dynamic, willing midfielders to bolster their starting eleven under David Moyes.
Players like Hoffenheim’s Anton Stach or other cost-effective, defensively robust options would better suit Everton’s need for midfield stability and align with their budget, ensuring competitiveness in the Premier League.
