Everton investigate Douglas Luiz transfer as £30m-plus offer ready

Everton are chugging along steadily in the transfer window, but could shift gears at any given moment.

David Moyes has three fresh faces ahead of the new season, with Thierno Barry the most eye-catching arrival at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Mark Travers is officially an Everton player after the goalkeeper completed his £4million switch from Bournemouth.

Now, there has been a significant update on Douglas Luiz, who faces an uncertain future at Juventus.

Everton looking into Luiz as transfer details emerge

Juventus want to sell Luiz permanently this summer, while the Toffees are considering different transfer methods.

The central midfielder has endured a torrid spell in Turin after leaving Aston Villa for Italy just a year ago.

Luiz was sold to the Serie A outfit for £42.5million, but only made three league starts last season for the Old Lady.

Now, the Brazilian international is seemingly allowed to leave this summer, and Juve are prepared to take a hit.

Everton are reportedly investigating a deal for the 27-year-old, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport (16 July, page 5).

However, they face competition from West Ham, who would like to convince the Italian side with a loan deal.

That deal is said to be worth just over £8million, with a buyout fee of around £22-26million depending on the player’s performances in London.

As the interested parties keep a close eye on each other, Juventus may have to lower their demands as time passes.

Luiz worth the risk for Moyes and Everton

Before the midfielder departed Villa Park, there was talk of a move to Arsenal or even a return to Man City.

With that in mind, it is surprising that Luiz’s career has taken such a sharp decline in one season in Turin.

While his lack of impact last season is concerning, the Brazilian has shown enough quality in England to convince Moyes.

During the 2023/24 campaign, Luiz notched 20 goal contributions in all competitions and was influential for Unai Emery.

If he can get back to that level of performance, then Everton should take a punt on the 27-year-old.
