Gueye ‘to make way for Luiz’ amid latest Everton transfer news – Exclusive

Idrissa Gueye could face a struggle to get into Everton’s starting line-up next season.

The 35-year-old was a key lieutenant for David Moyes last season and recently signed a one-year contract extension, with the potential for another year.

Gueye featured 37 times in the Premier League, notching three assists and being a vital defensive presence.

However, his time as a starter may be coming to an end after the latest transfer update.

Everton set to win the race for Luiz

Everton have been battling for Douglas Luiz’s signature with Manchester United and West Ham, but the Toffees may be set to win the race.

Italian journalist Giovanni Albanese (July 16) claims that the Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit are close to securing the Juventus man on a loan-to-buy deal.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke believes that Luiz would be a solid signing for the Blues if they can convince him to join them.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “He would bring vast experience in the Premier League, notably with Aston Villa, where he was very good, less so with Manchester City before that.

“He was very highly rated, he got the move to Juventus, it did not work out, I’m not quite sure why, but it didn’t.

“You are buying a lot of streetwise experience to play central midfield in the top-flight, it would not be the worst piece of business, they have got Garner and Gueye, but they are obviously trying to beef up their options in the centre of the pitch.

“I would say if it did come to him, good pickup, they are probably realising they might have to manage Gueye’s minutes a bit, his stats are good though, but he is at an age where he might start to pick up injuries or they might have to ration his minutes.”

Luis would be a great addition for Moyes

Moyes is desperate to add more quality to his engine room, hence the links with the likes of John McGinn and Hayden Hackney.

Luis is entering the prime of his career at the age of 27, but featured just 19 times for the Italian giants in Serie A last season.

He was one of the best midfielders in the league at Villa, and he may just need a move back to England to find his form.
