Angus Kinnear locked in talks with David Moyes after Everton loss v Blackburn
Everton are yet to win in their pre-season campaign, and fell to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Blackburn in their second outing.
David Moyes’ side ended last season in superb form, and there was plenty of optimism heading into an important summer.
However, Everton have been relatively slow in the market despite letting several senior players leave, and their preparations for next season are not going well.
Thierno Barry is the only major signing to arrive so far, and he was absent from the squad against Blackburn, in which Everton were well below par and changes are clearly needed.

Moyes speaks to Angus Kinnear after Blackburn defeat
Everton’s defeat at Ewood Park came after a drab 90 minutes in which no one appeared even remotely close to full fitness ahead of the Premier League campaign.
Clearly, the squad needs reinforcements if Everton are to make any improvements next season, and Moyes knows this.
New CEO Angus Kinnear, who joined in the summer, now has a big task on his hands to help Moyes recruit the players he needs to complete his squad.
Departed player | Position |
Asmir Begovic | Goalkeeper |
Billy Crellin | Goalkeeper |
Joao Virginia | Goalkeeper |
Mason Holgate | Centre-back |
Ashley Young | Full-back |

Orel Mangala | Midfielder |
Jesper Lindstrom | Winger |
Jack Harrison | Winger |

Armando Broja | Striker |
Dominic Calvert-Lewin | Striker |
The Liverpool Echo (July 20) has now reported that following the loss at Ewood Park, Moyes and Kinnear were spotted having a lengthy conversation in the tunnel while the players went through their warm-downs.
Kinnear watched the dismal defeat from the director’s box, and after such a poor display, it is claimed that he will have “no doubts” that he needs to help recruit upgrades in the transfer market.

Everton languish behind in pre-season
With less than a month until the season begins, Everton need to get a move on in their preparations, both in terms of recruitment and fitness.
The Toffees have failed to beat lower league opposition in Accrington Stanley and Blackburn, while no new signings have been given the chance to get acquainted with the team.
This could cost Everton at the start of the season, as the teams around them have already made significant strides to improve.
Promoted sides Leeds and Sunderland have each made over five signings, who are already on the pitch with their new teams, and Everton need to ensure that anyone they bring in now is given a chance to adapt during pre-season.
