Everton ‘set for Ashley Young reunion soon’ after Watford U-turn

Everton parted ways with a substantial chunk of their squad as they prepare for a fresh chapter under David Moyes.

Ashley Young was among the players to depart Goodison Park on June 30 and has since been searching for a new challenge.

The Toffees have been busy making inroads in the transfer market, with Mark Travers the latest addition for Moyes.

While it seemed Young was returning to his former club, Watford, there has been a surprising update on his future.

Watford move off amid Young wage demands

Young was linked with a remarkable return to Watford, where he made a name for himself before a career at the top of the game.

The 40-year-old came through the Hornets’ academy before going on to play for Aston Villa, Man United, and Inter Milan.

Despite his age, Young is seeking a new club, but if reports are to be believed, then that will no longer be Watford.

That is because the right back is likely to join Ipswich Town, according to Alex Crook (21 July).

While the Hornets were keen to re-sign him and possibly make him their captain, his wage demands did not fit their structure.

The Tractor Boys are busy preparing for their Championship return and are in a healthier financial position as they are receiving parachute payments.

Furthermore, Kieran McKenna’s side are favourites for promotion and possess a squad oozing with Championship quality.

Everton can meet Young again after transfer news

While a move to Watford would have been a romantic one, Young is perfectly placed to return to the Premier League if his move goes through.

Ipswich spent substantially last summer, and although they suffered relegation, they are perfectly placed for a Premier League return.

McKenna has proved himself to be a superb manager and has played a pivotal role in the Tractor Boys’ rebirth.

Of course, the Championship is stacked full of quality next season, meaning it may not be as straightforward this time round.

However, Young is now poised for his next move, and a return to Everton may not be as far away as first anticipated.
