Everton ‘dealt blow in James McAtee race’ after confirmed transfer developments

Everton need to strengthen in attacking areas, but the transfer window has proved frustrating so far.

The Toffees let a lot of players leave at the start of the summer, but are yet to replace many of them, with Thierno Barry the only attacking signing so far.

Everton have an important window ahead as they need to strengthen a lot of different areas within the squad, and the attacking depth is now threadbare.

David Moyes has his eye on one player who could be an ideal addition, but he may now face frustration as two Premier League sides could have an advantage.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham lead Everton for James McAtee

Everton are reportedly interested in Manchester City sensation James McAtee, who will be allowed to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer.

It was previously reported that McAtee could be available for around £25million, but this stance has now changed.

The Telegraph (July 21) have now reported that Man City want closer to £35m to sell the talented attacking midfielder, and there is no shortage of interest.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham are both keen on McAtee, but they both hold an advantage over Everton following this development over the price tag.

While Everton are yet to make any significant sales, Forest sold Anthony Elanga for around £55m, while West Ham pocketed a similar amount from Mohammed Kudus’ move to Tottenham.

Both clubs are now much more prepared to potentially splash out £35m on McAtee than Everton are, and Moyes may have to look elsewhere.

Everton need attacking reinforcements

Jack Harrison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Abdoulaye Doucoure were among the players who departed at the end of June, and this has left Everton’s squad very thin in attacking areas.

McAtee’s versatility could have seen him replace Harrison on the wing or Doucoure in the centre, and potentially losing out on him will be frustrating.

At least one winger is now needed, and another attacking midfielder would be welcomed, with Jack Grealish also linked with a loan move.

Everton’s pre-season campaign has not gotten off to a good start, and new signings will need to arrive quickly to help prepare for next season.
