Watch as Everton star Charly Alcaraz makes history at Hill Dickinson Stadium
Everton played their first match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Tuesday in a 2-1 victory over Port Vale.
The Toffees have had a tricky start to their pre-season campaign, drawing with Accrington Stanley before Everton lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
It will not have been the start David Moyes wanted as he prepares for his first full season back at the Merseyside club.
However, Charly Alcaraz has eased the Scotsman’s concerns, as the Argentine proved to be crucial to Everton’s victory over the League One outfit.

Charly Alcaraz nets Everton’s first goal at the Hill Dickinson Stadium
Unfortunately for many Everton fans, the match against Port Vale was behind closed doors, meaning supporters were unable to witness the Merseyside club’s first match at their new stadium.
As a result, fans also missed out on a piece of history at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Alcaraz netted Everton’s first-ever goal at the stadium with a well-struck effort from the edge of the box that lasered into the corner of the net.
Everton’s official X account (22 July) posted the goal, allowing the Toffees fans to witness the history that had been made.
James Garner netted the second goal from a free-kick.
Moyes needs to get more from his team this pre-season
While the match means very little, it is incredibly disappointing that Everton only managed to beat a League One side 2-1.
With pre-season now well underway, the Toffees need to show signs that their performance levels are improving. However, so far, that remains to be seen.
Moyes is now set to take his side on their tour to the USA, with matches against Bournemouth on the horizon.
Everton’s pre-season schedule | Date |
Everton vs Bournemouth | 26 July |
West Ham vs Everton | 30 July |
Manchester United vs Everton | 3 August |
Everton vs Roma | 9 August |
The Scotsman has to ensure that there is an improvement on the pitch against the Cherries, or the manager may have to look at other options in the transfer window.
Everton simply cannot afford another slow start to the Premier League season, and gaining momentum in pre-season is vital to avoiding this.
