Everton ‘ready to bet on Lino’ with Atletico transfer agreement now on cards

Everton are looking to add attacking reinforcements to their squad before the Premier League season starts.

The Toffees only scored 42 Premier League goals last season, and David Moyes is actively looking for players who can improve that tally.

The acquisition of Villareal striker Thierno Barry should help, but Moyes isn’t stopping there, with Atletico Madrid winger Samuel Lino next on his radar.

Everton ready to bet on Atletico Madrid star Lino

Everton have been linked with several big-name wingers who could serve up plenty of goalscoring chances for their new striker, Barry, although they haven’t been able to get any through the door yet.

Now, Spanish publication AS has reported in its print edition (23 July, pg 13) that they could turn their attention to Atletico Madrid star Lino.

The Rojiblanco club see an exit for the Brazilian with “very good eyes”, and it’s believed that Everton are “ready to bet” on him.

Lino operates from the left wing. He featured in the Club World Cup for Atletico this summer, although he could only rack up 58 minutes of game time.

His acquisition could allow Iliman Ndiaye to operate from a more central position.

Lino is the type of player to get the crowd out of their seats

Everton fans should be excited about the links to Lino, as he’s exactly the type of player that their squad is missing.

The Toffees lacked creativity and explosiveness on the wings last season, and that was a big factor behind their lack of goals. That lack of creative magic in the final third has been evident in Everton’s pre-season friendlies as well.

Samuel Lino 2024-25 statistics

Lino is a pacy winger who isn’t afraid to take on his defender and is more than capable of beating his man. He can create chances out of nothing and is the type of player to get the crowd on their feet.

He could add that attacking spark that Everton were desperately lacking at times last season.

Lino’s arrival could stretch defences, open up space in midfield, and make Everton a more exciting team to watch. If Moyes wants to be involved in the race for European places and domestic honours, signing a flair player like Lino is a smart and ambitious move.
